The first book in the WQUZ series, Standby by Brandy Ayers is a fast-paced, thrilling read with added romance. Having read this author’s work before, I knew how good at writing drama-filled scenes she was and so I had high hopes. After just the first few chapters I was hooked and just couldn’t put the book down!Our leading lady, Mira, being a crime reporter is what first drew me into this book. Such a unique premise, it was really fun to find something I immediately became super excited about. I couldn’t wait to learn more about Mira, especially her personal life. Her father’s illness is something else I connected with, solidifying that this book was a must-read for me. At times a hard and emotional read, Mira is such a well-developed character that her life and story will really touch you. I found myself wanting to be her, despite the stress she is under, but also wanting to help her.
Add a crazy fan (what a good storyline!) and super hot competitor to her list of things to stress her out and Mira has no time for a social life. I loved the back-and-forth between her and Noble. Having it start right at the beginning of the book was a great decision from the author as we got even longer to see their relationship develop and change. Noble is seriously hot and even Mira can’t deny that. I love it when the leading man is a little cheeky as this makes for such an entertaining read. A little light-hearted relief is exactly what this book needs as it deals with such a dramatic main plotline. No spoilers from me but be wary of certain characters!
Another fantastic read from this author has confirmed that she is fast becoming one of my go-to reads. I have loved everything I’ve read of hers and this is no exception. Keep them coming!

Standby WQUZ News Book 1 is a book by Brandy Ayers. This book is about two reporters who are constantly competing against each other within the crime reporting community. This story has lots of excitement, plenty of action, some good old fashion passion and suspense. This is a good romantic crime story that I️ truly enjoyed start to finish. This is MIA and Chris story.
Mia Simpson works is a news reporter for WQUZ who works a lot and doesn’t date. When Mia is not working she is taking care of her very sick father. Since her father got ill two years ago she has not had much of a life. Chris Noble is a free lance crime reporter that now works for a local news station as their crime reporter. From the time meets Mia he knows he has to have her and does what he can to try and seduce her. Mia has a fanatical fan who begins making life scary and difficult. This story is not just a typical suspenseful romance it is a story that teaches the art of learning to trust others and giving people enough of a chance to find out who they really are and what they’re really about. I️ look forward to reading more from this series and the author
Standby by Brandy Ayers is the first in the WQUZ News series. A brilliant enemies to lovers story this book was highly entertaining throughout.
Mira loves her job. She is good at it and she loves the thrill she gets every time she puts out an amazing story. Even better is every time she does better than her competition Chris Noble. Snug and arrogant she loves nothing more than to knock him off his pedestal.
However she can’t help but few the growing attraction to him. Although she knows she needs to stay away and not get involved - they are competition after all - she can’t help but be drawn to him like no one else previously.
But with a complicated home life and a newly acquired stalker her life is anything but simple. Holding him off might be one thing too much for her to handle. Letting him in though might also be more than she can take.
This was a brilliant book. I loved the back and forth between these two characters and there hilarity that seemed to to be all their interactions. They were well suited together and made you want to read more about them.
I would have loved to have had some chapters told from his POV however the story did not lack from this. An author I have read previously and one who continues to grab my attention and keep hold. A great read.
Standby WQUZ News Book by Brandy Ayers is a contemporary romance story with a hint of action included. The story is full of romance and the chemistry between the two main characters will jump off the page, with the fast paced, witty writing I really enjoyed this story.
Mira is a reporter who has alot on her plate juggling a full time job and caring for her sick father, she has no time for any other hobbies or relationships until he walked in the room and changed her ideas and leaves her wanting more.
Chris Noble enters the scene and things start getting interesting at first, Mira is not too interested and thinks he is up himself but when he starts popping up the least expected places she can not deny the attraction between the two of them.
I really enjoyed this book and although the story is fast paced I could not put it down, the writing is witty and the story is well written, I especially feel that the subject of Alzheimer's is written with dignity and the struggle that Mira has is real to alot of people. Mira's shows through the writing of the character a caring side and that us as individuals try to sometimes kid ourselves into thinking that things are not as bad as we believe. I have read other books by the author and cannot wait to read more in this series going forward.
